Advice on Taking Dietary Supplements

Food and drug administrations regulate the selling, distribution, and consumption of food and drugs, including food or dietary supplements. They have the reason to. Whatever the reasons are, it's for the good of the general public. So, let's obey those regulations.

Food supplements should not be taken as substitute to medicines. They are not intended to treat, cure, or prevent diseases or heal illnesses and ailments. That's the reason why food supplements are labeled "No Approved Therapeutic Claim." There has to be a scientific study and tests to humans made before any food supplement manufacturer can make a valid claim. Personal testimonies are not enough reasons as well to make a valid claim. In the meantime, if food supplements pass the approval of food and drug administrators, we know that they are safe to use or to be taken.

On the other hand, there are nutrients, like vitamins and minerals, that have been proven scientifically to benefit our health. But just the same, vitamins and minerals should not be taken as substitute to medicines. Let's be thankful, however, that there are food supplements to refill our body's deficiency to certain nutrients in order to keep us healthier. As usually said, food supplements complement the medicines.
